Wild & Scenic Rivers

Wild and Scenic Rivers “preserve certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations.”

As part of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan, we’re supporting the recommendation to add about 200 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers in the Yakima Basin.

The Yakima Basin Conservation Campaign is working with diverse stakeholders to develop a Wild and Scenic Rivers protection proposal, using the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan’s Wild and Scenic Rivers recommendations as a starting point. Contact us if you would like to be involved in shaping the proposal.

The recommendations include:

  • Upper Cle Elum River
  • Waptus River
  • Cooper River
  • American River
  • Rainier Fork of American River
  • South Fork of the Tieton
  • Teanaway River’s North, Middle and West Forks
  • South Fork of Indian Creek
  • Rattlesnake Creek
  • Deep Creek
